    The events of the past month have led us to pause and reflect on many things about whom we are, where we’ve come from and where we are heading. One hundred and fifty-five years ago, our forefathers embraced similar thoughts. It was on June 19, 1865 – two and half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation – when news finally made it to Texas that the enslaved were now free. Now known as Juneteenth, on this day we promote and cultivate knowledge and appreciation of African-American history and culture.
